Cathedral Music Ministries
Dr. Brian DuSell – Director of Music (315) 422-4177 ext 6431
Welcome to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Music Ministry. The Cathedral’s music ministry is dedicated to giving glory to God through providing beautiful and appropriate sacred music for the Cathedral’s liturgies. Here dedicated volunteer singers and instrumentalists work together with professional cantors, soloists, and instrumentalists to provide the cathedral’s music under the direction of our Director of Music, Dr. Brian DuSell. The cathedral also partners with ensembles and musical organizations to present concerts of beautiful sacred music throughout the year. The Cathedral building, with its warm resonance, generously supports congregational singing and greatly enhances the sound of our choirs and beautiful instruments. The Cathedral is blessed to have a magnificent Roosevelt pipe organ beautifully rebuilt by the Schantz organ company and cared for by Kerner and Merchant organ builders of Syracuse. Additionally, the Cathedral has a Bosendorfer Imperial grand piano. Together, all of these elements form a vibrant music ministry. We encourage you to become a part of this ministry whether it be as a chorister, instrumentalist, friend, benefactor, or one who simply sings along with the hymns and service music during the liturgies.

Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.
Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.
praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.

-Psalm 150

Cathedral Organ
The Cathedral’s Roosevelt Schantz pipe is known for its beauty and rich sound. Built originally in 1892, it had become unplayable by the 1970’s. Dwayne Sutton (director of music from 1968-2010) led an effort to have the organ rebuilt. The Schantz firm from Ohio rebuilt the organ and saved all Roosevelt pipework, placing all but the largest pedal and facade pipes on Schantz windchests. Schantz also preserved the Roosevelt voicing and wind pressure. Finally, a few ranks were added maintaining the Roosevelt sound. The result is a stunning musical success. Kerner and Merchant organbuilders of Syracuse have converted the console to solid state and carefully maintain the instrument. Follow the link below for a specification of the organ.
